Training and Background
I have worked with adults and couples for over 30 years and have been licensed as a psychologist California (PSY 17183) since 2001. My training includes a Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Baylor University and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University, along with four years of advanced study at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis.
Professional Experience
Over the years, I’ve worked in a wide range of settings that have shaped my approach. I have been providing psychotherapy to adults and couples since 1992, and started my private practice in 2002. Today I provide psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in San Francisco and Telehealth throughout California. I spent more than 15 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs (Northern California), supporting individuals through complex life challenges. I also served as Clinical Director at Pacific Center for Human Growth, a clinic dedicated to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community in Berkeley. My work has also included providing therapy and training at University of California, Berkeley counseling center, as well as leading workshops on depth-oriented psychotherapy and clinical supervision.
"Patrick Neer was in a study group that I led and I have had the pleasure of seeing how his mind and heart work. He has a superior intellect which enables him to grasp how psychology is influencing the difficulties a patient is having. In addition, he is deeply empathic about patients’ suffering. He is an exceptional clinician and I recommend him enthusiastically."
