Psychoanalytic Therapy and Psychoanalysis in San Francisco
I provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in San Francisco for adults struggling with anxiety, relationship difficulties, depression, trauma, and longstanding emotional and relationship patterns that continue to repeat despite insight, effort, or previous therapy.
This depth-oriented approach can be helpful for people experiencing chronic anxiety, loneliness, self-criticism, relationship struggles, or a persistent sense of feeling stuck.
What is psychoanalytic therapy?
Psychoanalytic therapy focuses on understanding the deeper emotional patterns that shape how we experience ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. Rather than focusing only on symptom reduction, this approach is interested in understanding why certain struggles persist — even when you intellectually understand them.
Many people seek psychoanalytic therapy because they notice recurring relationship patterns, chronic anxiety, difficulty relaxing, persistent loneliness, self-criticism, or a sense of feeling stuck despite previous therapy or personal growth efforts.
This work pays attention to both present-day struggles and the emotional experiences that shaped us over time. By developing greater understanding of these patterns as they emerge within therapy itself, new possibilities for change often become available.
What is psychoanalysis?
Psychoanalysis is a more intensive form of this work. While this level of treatment is not necessary for everyone, some people find that more frequent meetings create the continuity and depth needed to explore longstanding emotional patterns, relationship difficulties, chronic anxiety, or ways of relating that have felt difficult to change, including after previous therapy experiences.
My interest in psychoanalytic work led me to pursue extensive post-licensure psychoanalytic training at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis, including advanced coursework, extensive supervised clinical work, and my own psychoanalysis. This training deepened my understanding of unconscious processes, emotional development, and the complex ways we relate to ourselves and others.
I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in San Francisco for adults seeking deeper, longer-lasting change. Whether we meet once per week or more intensively, the goal remains the same: helping you understand yourself more deeply, loosen longstanding patterns that no longer serve you, and create more meaningful relationships.
